Christianity and Sports

There's another way to tackle this subject. Let's do some biblical athletics.

Christianity & Sports

Sports is such a common language throughout the world. It is both the fabric and intersection of so many cultures. So, let us dive in to this rich treasure chest that emits our joys, struggles, triumphs, and failures in locations that vary from monstrous stadiums to the backyard. We want to explore how the phenomenon of sports can help us understand relationships - to ourselves, to each other, to God, and to creation.

Sports predates Christianity. We learn of ancient civilizations participating in leisure activities and competitive games. Some contests highlight human achievement while others represent a cosmic understanding of deities and creation myths. With this blog, we hope to reveal the beauty of sports from a Christian perspective. The beauty can be seen as what God can do through, with, and despite of sports.

Biblical Athletics

understanding the Biblical story through sports and scripture

Too often the same “athletic verses” are used to promote an already presumed understanding of God and the Bible. From devotionals with depth to longer reflections on scripture, we want to expand our understanding of these famous verses while providing a larger understanding of the world and the role we have to play. A wise integration of sports and scripture is not limited to catchy verses or post-game praisings of God after a big win.

There are so many mixed messages in the world of sports that come from little league coaches all the way to Super Bowl speeches. It’s easy to get lost in it all. This section aims at understanding the prevailing messages of our times through the world of sports. We look at the good, bad, and redeemable in sports.

Letters to an Athlete

Life lessons for the middle school, high school and college athlete

We believe that God can use what we love to teach us about him, about life, and about our purposes on earth. This section includes notes to athletes who participate and observe sports with great passion. We want to engage their triumphs and failures in the athletic realm in order to provide guidance and perspective along the way.
